Sheep have always been part of the farm with the main house being built in 1907. Joe Haynes bought the farm in 2005. Island Crossing Farm then started from a passion for training Border Collies while wanting to carry on the tradition of raising a tasty lamb. When Joe met Heather, Pembroke Welsh Corgis became a part of the farm life.
Joe has been active in Border Collies since 2003 and trialing since 2004 when he purchased two very talented dogs named Ruth and Haig. Ruth was his novice-novice dog and Haig was his "teacher" who took him from Pro-novice into Open USBCHA trials. He received a lovely female Border Collie, Meg, in 2004 who along with Haig taught him a lot. He has attended several National and Regional trials and placed with Rain at the 2009 Nationals. Currently he is running Rain and Penny in Open. Up and coming is Chance (Don Helsley's Cap x Sandy Johnson's Dusty) who is currently in training.
Heather bought her first Pembroke Welsh Corgi in 1996 and started in agility the same year. She tought agility and obedience for Horse n Hound Farm in Pullman for 7 years before moving to Snohomish county. In 1997 she bought her second corgi after getting the "show bug" while attending the "Rose City Classic" in Portland, OR. It was that dog, Am/Can Ch. Sis-Q's That Is The Question OA, OAJ, CG, PHC who started the lines for "Hoedwig Kennels." Heather was fortunate mid 2008 to receive a Border Collie named "Desa" who has helped her get started in trialing and doing chores around the farm. She is now actively searching for a dog to go into Open with.
